GPS units

Bush Search and Rescue uses GPS (Global Positioning System) units in the field as navigation aids to supplement maps and compass navigation.

Two types of GPS units are currently in use:

  1. Garmin eTrex
  2. Garmin Vista HCx

GPS Lending

Two GPS units have been set aside for the purpose of training and familiarisation and the other units are ready for use on a search.

Any BSAR member may borrow one of the Garmin Vista HCx GPS units for up to two weeks at a time. BSAR members must contact Jim Grelis on 9836 0127 (h) to arrange to borrow one of these units.
