On Tuesday 2nd September 2014 a local call-out was issued for a carry-out of an injured person from Eskdale Spur. Two BSAR members in the North East joined a team of Police, SES, a ski patroller and a paramedic to evacuate the person down the Eskdale Spur track from Michell hut.
Bad weather had previously prevented the Police Air Wing from extracting the injured skier
A ‘Ferno’ stretcher with a single mountain bike wheel attached to the centre was used to transport the patient. The wheel took a lot of the weight and made the task a lot easier. There were a few trees across the track that the stretcher had to be lifted over. The rescue party got back to Camp Creek gap at 5 pm and the patient was transferred to an ambulance.
