BSAR support for bushfire situation – message from Monica Chapman, Bush Search and Rescue Victoria Convenor

It is indeed a tragic time for those affected by these bushfires.  The Board of Bushwalking Victoria have already agreed to make an immediate donation on behalf of its members as a start.  Further support is still under discussion.

In the meantime, I contacted Police Search and Rescue on Monday Feb 9 to offer BSAR’s support to fire relief efforts.

Police Search and Rescue have advised they have become involved today in a coordination role (albeit at a much larger scale than usual) and by now will have set up various command posts in the field.  They will contact us in the coming days/weeks, if/when they feel we can help.

In the meantime, they have requested the loan of the BSAR GPS units, and CB radios.  This is at least a small contribution we are able to make.

Let us hope that the fires still blazing can be put out or controlled in the coming days so that the loss of life and devastation does not increase further.
