Bush Search and Rescue are now using Garmin Vista HCx GPS units in the field.   These units have the following advantages over the older eTrex models:

• Rapid acquiring of satellites
• Greatly superior satellite reception - they work well under forest foliage
• Mapsheets can be purchased and loaded - including roads, tracks, walking tracks and even 10m countours for most of Australia
• Colour display with a good backlight
• USB computer inteface
• Joystick toggle simplifies inputting information
